 IAFF

  On February 28th, 1918, The International Association of Firefighters was organized with a firm dedication to represent our nations firefighters, to ensure proper training, tools, and safety measures to perform their jobs. Today the IAFF represents over 270,000 firefighters and emergency medical personnel who protect 85% of our population. The IAFF continues to be true to its original mission to give voice to those who protect you. The IAFF has been the driving force in nearly every advance in Fire and EMS in the 20th century. 

  

 Local 3190

  On November 9th 1988, the Bettendorf Professional Firefighters Association L3190 was formed in Bettendorf Iowa with 5 members.  After having been protected by a volunteer fire department for nearly a century, the growth in the city resulted in the need for a qualified professional staff to protect the people of Bettendorf. Today the Bettendorf Fire Department and its 25 union members serve over 37,000 residents and protect 45 square miles.  Local 3190 acts as the  sole bargaining and negotiating unit for your Bettendorf firefighters, and strives to maintain a professional and harmonious relationship between employees, management and city officials.

 

Career Firefighters in the City of Bettendorf 

 

 

1967  -Volunteer Fire Chief Art Voelliger requested that the City Council  begin hiring career firefighters.
1975  -1st career firefighter hired.
1984  - Staffing levels were increased to 1 firefighter per shift
1986  - 1st full time Chief is hired.
1988  - Staffing increased to 2 firefighters per shift
1990  -

Staffing increased to 3 per shift with minimum of 2 firefighters on duty (Emergency responses reach 1600 annually)

1992  - Staffing increased to 4 firefighters per shift with minimum of 2 firefighters on duty
2002  - Staffing increased to 6 firefighters per shift with a minimum of 4 firefighters on duty

2007  -

 

2009  -

 

Staffing increased to 7 firefighters per shift with minimum of 5 firefighters on duty (Emergency response volume exceeds 2500 per year)
